Guest Post for Ashley Sullenger

The AMAZING Ashley Sullenger (who just wrote a post about Dakota here) asked me awhile back before she had her twins to write a guest post for her blog about what I have learned from Dakota. Since this ties in perfectly with Dakota's birthday month as we are all sharing what we have learned and LOVE about Dakota I will share the link here if you would like to hear what I have learned from my sweet angel boy!

I was so grateful for this opportunity because it is ALWAYS good to have to sit down and think about some of the important lessons you have learned...to remind yourself...so you NEVER forget and continue to learn from them!! (I DEFINITELY don't want to have to relive and relearn them!!) ;)

If you haven't been following her blog you MUST!! She is such an inspirational and motivational person and writer who has been through so much herself!! I absolutely ADORE her and she is for sure one of my "heroes"!!!

  1. I found your blog this morning through Ashley's. I have been following her blog since Preslee's accident and have been inspired by her so much. I didn't know that following her blog was preparing me to handle the events that were coming in my own life. We had triplets last year 16 weeks early. My 2 girls passed away just days after birth and my son spent 5 months in the hospital. Brain injury and severe handicaps are very common in these types of preemies and we have been told from the beginning to prepare for some major challenges. Luckily, our son is growing and developing very well and doing a thousand times better than anyone would have ever expected. It's hard to be on both sides of situation being so grateful for the life that was spared (although far from easy or normal) but also grateful for the peace and comfort for the 2 that were spared the pain of this life.

Your story is so amazing and I admire your strength. Your son's story is so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. Dusti...WOW that is a hard road you have been on yourself!! The unknown of what life will look like for you and your little guy is a hard road to travel but I am SOOOO happy to hear he is doing better then expected!! What great news! I truly believe in miracles...they just come in ALL different shapes and sizes! I had hoped my miracle would be to see my son perfectly healthy with a great recovery but Heavenly Father saw my miracle as this sweet angel boy who would change my life for the good in SO many ways I didn't know possible! All I can say is trust in the Lord and he will guide you and your family down the path that is best for you!! Hang in there...you are a TRUE angel mom!! Thank you for visiting my blog and for your sweet comment!!

  2. I just found your blog through Ashley's Sullenger's blog. WOW! You are an AMAZING woman. I'm sure you have rough days but your positive attitude shines through. I have a question about Zach if you don't mind me asking. Was he ever diagnosed with any optic nerve issues? I have 2 boys, my oldest is 11 and when he was 9, we were told he had large optic nerves. He saw several different optometrist as we were trying to save $ due to no vision insurance. After the optometrist told us that he had large optic nerves, I researched online but couldn't really find anything related to children. I called my mom in a panic and she said- He's had other eye exams and the other docs haven't said anything, just wait until his next appointment but make it somewhere different and explain things to them. Due to my sons vision changing, he had another eye exam in 4 months and it was confirmed that he truly does have large optic nerves. The vision changes have slowed down but he has been in a bifocal since he was 8 and he is on meds daily for migraines. The docs are saying that his nerves are large but look healthy and symmetrical. After reading about Zach, I just wondered if they ever noticed anything about his optic nerves when he was younger.

    1. Calcottc thank you SO SO much for visiting my blog and for your sweet words! I don't think anyone ever feels like they are AMAZING so I appreciate you telling me that! I definitely have hard days...I have shared many of them on here...it is my source of therapy. But I do try to live that best I can every day...some days are easier then others and look a lot better then others! As far as I know Zach had no eye issues before the swelling began. I don't think his looked any different or they probably would have told him when the first eye went blind. They told him after that experience that the other eye would be fine cuz they thought both would have happened at the same time. SO I'm sorry that is probably not much help with your son. I sure hope and pray your sons eyes don't have any more changes and that he continues to do well!!
